The Work View Manager allows the inspector to have a navigation structure that more closely resembles the manner in which they perform the inspection. This can serve various purposes, such as not having to jump around in the report for each room you inspect, and as reminders to check and/or comment on specific topics that are found in a particular area.
For example, your work view could be set up for a room-by-room structure. The kitchen chapter would have just about all the same topics as, say, the living room, but with the addition of appliances and plumbing topics. As you can see, if you used a report view that was based on a system-by-system approach, you would have to jump, and remember to jump, between structural, appliances and plumbing chapters just to complete an inspection of the kitchen, and then jump around again for each room in the building. But by having a work view set up for a room-by-room inspection, you can not only save from jumping around excessively, but you can also have all the required topics for each room referencing the proper topic in the report view.
As you can see in the image below, we have included a Ducts & Vents topic in both the Family Room and the Master Bedroom, and we assigned the same Report View topic to each (i.e. the Ducts & Vents topic in the Heating, Ventilation, A/C Systems chapter of the Report View). Therefore, clicking on either of the Ducts & Vents topic in the Work View will take you to the actual Report View topic automatically.
WhisperReporter does not presume to know how you want to present each Ducts & Vents issues for different rooms in the Report, so instead of automatically creating subsections in the Report View's Ducts & Vents topic, the Work View takes you directly to that topic so that you can add your findings in the manner you see fit. By being able to see what issues you might already have for the other rooms, you might even find that it would be better to combine statements rather than repeating yourself. In any case, the presentation is up to you.
Work View Functions:
New
Create a new Work View from scratch.
Rename
Rename the selected Work View.
Delete
Delete the current work view.
Save As
Creates an exact copy of the selected Work View. Useful if you wanted to create a similar work view, perhaps just to create different navigation schemes depending on the property being inspected, yet still use the same Report View.
Use with current report
Allows you to change what Work View is being used for the current report. The button is only available if the Work View is valid for the current report's Report View. Useful to pick a different navigation scheme for the current Report View.
Node Functions:
Add Chapter
Add a new chapter to the Work View.
Add Topic
Add a new topic to the Work View. A topic is an area where you can enter comments.
Remove Node
Delete a node from the work View
Note: to change the order of a chapter or topic, you can simply drag-n-drop the node to the new location. To move a chapter as a child to another chapter, you will need to use the Parent Chapter pull down list to select the new parent.
Node Properties:
Caption
Specify the caption that should be shown in the navigation tree.
Parent Chapter
Specify the parent chapter that the node will be a child of in order to have it resemble how you perform an inspection. You can also drag-n-drop nodes using the Node tree panel on the left. If you need to move a folder inside an empty folder (i.e. make it a child node of that empty folder), you must use the Parent Chapter method since a folder cannot be drag-n-dropped into a folder unless it is expanded (and an empty folder cannot be expanded).
Report View's corresponding topic node
Select the actual Report View's topic that should be presented for editing when the Work View topic is selected.
Hint
Select a hint to display in the hint window, if desired.
