Getting Started

To ensure you have the latest version of our software, it is best to visit our website to download the current version at www.whispersolutions.com. You will be looking for a file called WhisperReporterSetupxxxx_vvvv.exe, where xxxx will be an installation type such as Full, and vvv will be a version number, for example: WhisperReporterSetupFull_13K.exe. Click on the desired file to begin the download process.

If you are installing for the first time, execute the setup program you just downloaded; it is recommended that you use the default settings provided within the setup program.

If this is an update to an existing install, now would be a good time to first bring up your existing version of WhisperReporter and perform a full backup using the Data Manager to save your current database, and then run the setup program to update to the new version (of course, don't forget to close WhisperReporter if still running). Updating will not generally affect your data, but it is always a good idea to make sure you have a current backup of the database prior to updating the software. This serves to address two safety issues, one being that an update might have introduced an undetected bug which could cause undesirable changes to your data, and second, the update might have to restructure your data in order to provide an additional feature, possibly leaving your data unusable should you desire to downgrade to an earlier version later for whatever reason (not to mention what might happen if the power should fail during the restructuring process). We don't mean to scare you, as the possibility of data loss during an update is remote, but backups are always a good thing!

After the setup program completes, you can then run the software. The installation procedure installed two convenient methods to run WhisperReporter. One method is by using the Windows Start menu by clicking the following in sequence: Start ® All Programs ® Whisper Computer Solutions, Inc ® Whisper Reporter. The easier method is to simply double click the Whisper Reporter icon installed onto your desktop, which looks something like this:

Once WhisperReporter is up and running and this is your first time with WhisperReporter, the first thing you might want to do is to enter your company and inspector information. Both of these can be setup by selecting the respective menu items under Setup from the main menu.
