Creating New Reports

New reports are created based on templates (consisting of a Report View and partially filled comment sections). WhisperReporter includes several report templates out-of-the-box, which you can use to create your reports from, or even use to create new templates. Modifying an existing template or creating a whole new report view/template from scratch is detailed later in the Report Designer section. Also, please check our website for new templates that can be downloaded. If you need a particular report layout and don't want to attempt to create it yourself, just let us know. If it is a layout that we can distribute to everyone, we will create it for free. Please don't request us to create any forms that require a fee to reproduce or might otherwise violate copyright laws.

All report samples we provide are templates, meaning that the comment areas will be pre-filled with various information that would be minimally required in a particular comment section. Sometimes this information was or could have been entered as part of the report view itself, and sometimes it is part of the comment area to make it easier to visualize the data that needs to be entered (typical of form entry style rather than narrative style reports), but more likely it is filled with commonly referenced information that you have tailored to a specific building type. But for whatever the reason, being able to create a new report that is based on another report you have designated as a template can be a huge time saving feature.

You can create a new report by either using the menu sequence File ® New Report or by clicking on the New Report icon on the main toolbar. Either method will invoke the following dialog:





Report Template (or recently used report)
The most recently used template will be first in the list of existing templates to use, but if you desire a different one, simply click on the pull down list to select from the available templates (also listed will be any report you might have used recently as a template), or click on the Lookup button to browse all reports to find the one you would like to use as a template for this new report.

Inspection Date and Inspection Time
Defaults to the current date and time, but can be set to when the actual inspection took place (and can be changed later if needed).

Report Number
You can select whether to use the automatically generated report number (if enabled), or to manually specify a report number (which might be useful if you are in the process of creating a new template based on another template). As with the date, the report number can be changed later.
·Auto Report Number Generation  
The report number automatically generated will be used. The number generated is based on the settings provided under Preferences.  
·Manual  
The report number entered here will be used. Enter a report number that is meaningful to you or your client.  

Create New Template
Click this button to create a new blank template based on an existing Report View that you will then select. See Creating A New Blank Template for more information.


Click OK to begin the task of entering information into the report based on the template selected.
