Cloakable Text
Previous  Top  Next

Cloakable text is a feature that allows text in a comment area to be marked such that it will not be included when the report is generated. This can be useful when creating a template, and you either want to include inline notes to yourself that are only visible when entering your comments, or you want to build a template with various texts that can be turned on/off with a click of the mouse instead of inserting using RapidRemarks. Text marked as cloakable can include images as well.

One important note is that if you mark text as cloakable, don't forget to mark the line breaks as cloakable too; otherwise even though the text won't appear in the report, the line breaks used along with that text will be included, leaving blank lines where the cloaked text had been. Once the text has been marked as cloakable, there is no visible way to know if the line break was also marked, unfortunately. So to be sure to include the line break, it is best to get used to marking the text using a particular technique with visual feedback described below:

Selecting text using the keyboard
Place the text cursor on the first character to be marked. Hold the shift key down and hit the cursor down key. This will select the whole line, including the line break. You should notice that the text is highlighted as well as the empty area to the right of the text through to the margin. This indicates that the line break has been selected. If only the text was highlighted, then the line break was not selected:

This is an example of selected text that does not include the line break:

Selecting text using the mouse
Move the mouse cursor to the start of the text to be selected. Hold down the left mouse button and drag the mouse over the area to be selected. To include the line break at the end of the selection, be sure to drag the mouse just below the beginning of the last line so that the empty area to the right of the last line is fully highlighted through to the margin as shown above and then release the left mouse button.

Marking the selected text as cloakable
Once you have selected the text you want to mark as cloakable, click on the Mark/Unmark text as Cloakable editor toolbar icon . This will cause the selected text to become gray with a single gray underline. This indicates the text is currently cloaked and will not appear in the report. To uncloak it so that it will appear in the report, just click anywhere on the gray underlined text. When cloakable text will appear in the report, the text will be black (or rather "non-gray", depending on whether you changed the text color from the default black) indicating that it will appear in the report. The gray underline will still be visible in the editor (not in the report) to let you know that the text is cloakable.

Removing the cloakable attribute
If you need to remove the cloakable attribute (it is a good idea to remove the cloakable attribute if you need to adjust the start or end points of the currently cloakable text), simply place the text cursor anywhere in the cloakable text area and click the Mark/Unmark text as Cloakable editor toolbar icon . The text should return to its normal state.
